Thoughts on running an e-business – ZDNet UK
March 19, 2008 by Tony

There are actually around 620,000 majority women-owned businesses in the UK – that’s more than ever before but the number of such businesses winning corporate and public sector contracts is still shockingly low. One initiative that could help change this situation is WEConnect (or Women in Enterprise Connecting to Contracts), a Women’s Enterprise Task Force (WETF) scheme launched to critical acclaim at the House of Commons last month (February) – and which received strong endorsement in the Government’s recent Enterprise Strategy. The scheme hopes to break down the barriers faced by women-owned businesses in securing corporate contracts (although 16% of UK businesses are currently women owned, only 3- to 5% of corporate and public sector contracts go to women-owned businesses). I really do hope WEConnect gives women the chance to build relationships with large organisations that want to work with women-owned businesses by getting access to corporates at a level that they perhaps wouldn’t otherwise be able to. Although there have been remarkable policy developments in the UK over the past five years, it will take sustained commitment to ensure an equivalent level of development in women’s enterprise within the UK. read more

Businesses would be forced to contribute to the funding of a national police e-crime unit under the current proposal being considered by the Home Office. But the private sector has hit back, saying the core funding for a dedicated police unit to combat e-crime must come from the government. It follows a suggestion that the Policing Central E-crime Unit, proposed by the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) and the Metropolitan Police Service, would be jointly funded by the Home Office, Acpo and businesses. Catherine Bowen, head of crime policy at the British Retail Consortium (BRC), said businesses would expect to have input on the running of the unit if they were supporting its costs. Influence of big business over the unit concerned the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), with a spokeswoman saying larger companies may be rewarded with more say over its running in return for bigger contributions. The successful candidate will be expected to manage multiple projects through close working with internal stakeholders & peers, leading the . read more

The team of special counsel Cho Joon-woong on Thursday cleared 28 senior Samsung executives including the son of Samsung Group chairman Lee Kun-hee of the allegation that they illegally made Samsung affiliates cover huge losses from a failed Internet venture led by the heir for him. When they went belly-up, senior executives of Samsung affiliates including Cheil Communications were alleged to have purchased Lee’s shares for four days in March 2001 to cover his losses. The special counsel concluded Samsung affiliates’ purchase of Lee’s shares was technically legal, considering that they followed normal procedures, including analyzing the feasibility of their purchase of his shares and getting approval from their board of directors. While the e-Samsung-affiliated Internet firms registered heavy losses at first, their business improved later, and Samsung affiliates who bought Lee??s shares were reportedly happy with their decision to buy shares cheap. read more

To find quality content to return for search queries the search engines look for sites with test content and the more the better. If you can´t write your own unique content (which is preferred) for your site, you can use the content from article directories to place on your site for content as long as you retain the authors resource box. You need the content there for the search engines to spider when they visit through all the linking pathways you created when submitting your site to quality web directories. The more quality web directories you submit your site to, the more articles content you provide on your site and the more articles you submit for publication on article directories, the more search engines will love your site. read more

After notifying us in the intro that this book is for those who have participated in at least 100 eBay auctions, she goes on to give instructions on how to select an eBay User ID, a process that must be completed when joining the site. In Part III, Collier deals in detail with the nuts and bolts of running an eBay business from setting up images for FTP upload, automating inventory management, sale scheduling, end of auction e-mail, feedback etc. Due to variances in state laws, real estate sales on eBay are not legally binding to either party, but given the tough home-selling market it might pay to ‘advertise’ your home before a world-wide market on eBay.
