A federal grand jury in Las Vegas on Thursday indicted a former professional football player, a casino owner and a Las Vegas business associate for promoting a $278 million scheme that prosecutors contend allowed taxpayers to illegally claim disability-related tax breaks. Joseph Prokop, a punter who played with several National Football League teams, including the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins , for seven seasons through 1992, was charged with conspiracy, preparing false tax returns and fraud. Also charged were Alan Rodrigues, who operates at least two casinos in Las Vegas and North Las Vegas — including the Opera House and the Silver Nugget — and Weston Coolidge, a businessman from Las Vegas. The scheme, promoted through radio advertisements and on talk-radio programs, was sold 26,600 times to customers nationwide, for $10,475 each. read more

Sweet Tweeny-Bop Deal – Clique Girlz Team Up With Baby Bottle Pop – NYTimes. Instead, the Clique Girlz — Destinee Monroe, 14; her sister, Paris, 12; and their best friend, Ariel Moore, 14 — are in danger of washing out of the entertainment industry before their first full CD comes to market. Eisner bought in 2007, has signed the Clique Girlz as commercial spokeswomen for Baby Bottle Pop, one of the Top 10 nonchocolate candy brands. The Jonas Brothers signed a nearly identical life-support deal with Topps in the period between getting dropped by Sony and being signed by Walt Disney Records in the summer of 2007. It may sound routine — teenage band signs marketing deal with candy company — but the partnership underscores the difficulty the music industry is having when it comes to introducing successful acts for the children’s market. read more

Griffiths, an information technology consultant, and his wife, Katy — who is pregnant — had to move in November when Rockrose declined to renew their lease at its EastCoast waterfront development in Long Island City, Queens. Griffiths, who indeed had posted complaints, but on a Google Groups forum that he created — a tenants’ group accessible only to members whom he approved. What most irks some EastCoast tenants is that Rockrose markets its luxury apartments as part of a community — but then seems to limit open debate in that community. The Griffiths moved out — they had been leaning toward leaving, anyway — and figured their association with EastCoast was over. read more

Definitions: E-mail Security – IT Business Edge(E-Business)

E-mail security refers to the measures used to protect  e-mail systems against a multitude of threats, including malicious code and  data loss. Businesses can choose to deploy their own technologies as  part of their e-mail security, or they can choose to outsource e-mail security  to a service provider that filters incoming e-mail for malware, spam and other  objectionable content. For this reason, it?s especially important that businesses  consider the e-mail security strategy adopted by the service provider, who is  just as vulnerable to e-mail security threats as its customers. E-mail security appliances are an all-in-one approach to  e-mail security. A variety of software is also available to support e-mail  security efforts, including encryption, antivirus, content filtering,  anti-spam, anti-spyware and security suites, which package different software  together into a single application. Other network security technologies such as routers,  intrusion-detection systems, and content filters can also support e-mail  security efforts. read more

Obama has been waging a vigorous battle with his handlers to keep his BlackBerry, which like millions of other Americans he has relied upon for years to stay connected with friends and advisers. He won the fight, aides disclosed Thursday, but the privilege of becoming the nation’s first e-mailing president comes with a specific set of rules. The battle over whether the president could keep his BlackBerry has been fueled to a large degree by Mr. Obama’s initial requests to allow him to keep his BlackBerry, they acquiesced as long as the president — and those corresponding with him — agreed to strict rules. read more
