Seems kind of funny that following up on an article about laptops to avoid for gaming would be an article about AMD and ATI parting ways when it comes to logo brands. Yes, AMD has announced that they’re killing off the ATI logo brand to make way for a new form of branding to represent the upcoming HD 6000 series. According to Thinq , the decision from AMD came after some aggressive marketing research revealed that people just aren’t digging the AMD/ATI logo. Just like everyone else, Philadelphia is struggling to get through the tough economy, and city officials want bloggers to do their fair share and pay up. But the cit does have a business tax that covers any Philadelphia-based bloggers who are now making any money from their online efforts. Maura Kennedy, a spokesperson for the city, told Computerworld that officials want money-making bloggers to register their business and start paying the tax. She noted that anyone writing a blog purely for fun is not considered a business and wouldn’t have to pay a tax. Will these bloggers now be required to have standard business insurance or workplace inspections? BEIJING — Internet sales in China, the world’s biggest web market, soared 60 percent on year in the first half, as more consumers and businesses went shopping online, state media said Wednesday. Underlining the growing appeal of the country’s Internet market, which now has around 420 million web users, sportswear giant Adidas said this week it had opened a flagship online store on China’s largest auction site Taobao. Topic: Article Marketing – Theories on Why 'Scott Pilgrim' Bombed – Cinematical (blog)

People expect the big studios to deliver exactly what they want; an action movie with action in it, a comedy with good jokes, a romance with some lessons in love. The underperformance of Scott Pilgrim crushes me, and I must lament that it must mean film fans or geeks would rather just see more 80s toys become big budget film properties with whiz bang effects rather than truly innovative filmmaking and honest storytelling. Don’t hate the audiences, hate the movie and the weirdo tastes of the handful of people who made so much noise at comic-con fooling Universal into thinking they had a hit. This movie bombed due to peoples inability to see him breaking his typecast (though he has already done that in youth in revolt), as well as most people writing the movie off as childish for having “bangs” and flashes. But my bf and guy friends are all sick of Michael Cera, they didn’t think the girl was hot enough(once I google imaged her in her normal look they realized the error of their ways, but still thought she looked nerdy in the movie, they’re idiots), they didn’t understand it was a comic, they were annoyed with little video game hearts popping up in the commercial. read more

In the fourth year of the awards, entries are expected to exceed those submitted for the 2009 contest (then called the Government Technology Awards), when more than 600 nominations from agencies in 16 countries in Asia Pacific were entered across 12 categories. The Sujala Wastershed Project, which is entered in the Connected Government and E-Government categories, launched in August 2001 to helped six drought prone districts better manage water resources. Last year, Malaysia won the top prize for Technology Leadership with the eKL project, an initiative to integrate and connect Malaysians in the capital and provide a single ?No wrong door? portal for government services. In some cases, the top competitors earn enough cash that competing and writing code via TopCoder becomes their full-time job. TopCoder also runs an annual competition, the TopCoder Open, in which participants from around the world compete in six tracks, including algorithm, design and development. Rob Hughes said the brothers were fresh off of Tallan and looking back on their time there when they realized that trying to find good developers was difficult and expensive — and even more expensive if you hired someone you thought was a good candidate, but proved to lack the requisite skills. Client work by members encompasses builds ranging from major business-to-business e-commerce systems and third party developer community platforms for creating new applications for Fortune 500 companies, to online lead generation products for the automobile sector to crowdsourcing and social media platforms for start up businesses. read more

In an article for The Telegraph , the former foreign secretary warned his party that it must turn its back on “crude marketing” and “transparent positioning”. Outlining his pitch for the leadership, Mr Miliband said Labour must rebuild the broad coalition of support won by Tony Blair in 1997 if it is to govern again. The comments put him directly at odds with his brother and fellow contender Ed Miliband who has called for a traditional Labour appeal to the working classes. Mr Miliband said Labour needed to understand the lives of middle income voters – “their needs, fears and aspirations”. read more
