Rather the insurance industry needs to understand and embrace how to maximise the benefits of each unique technological environment to add value to the service offering and deliver competitive advantage and differentiation,” says Rhys Collins, head of African operations for SSP. Insurance specific applications such as claims tracking, renewal notifications, loss assessments and risk assessments will not only do much to enhance the overall service offering, but will eventually become essential to success within the industry,” adds Collins. According to Collins the power of social media has yet to be fully realised by the local insurance industry. Business users or consumers that are included as part of the product development process whether it be through providing feedback or intelligence, are far more likely to take up the product and recommend it to others as is evidenced through the success of numerous big brand campaigns that have made use of social media application Facebook. read more

The event was attended by elected officials from across the borough, including Borough President Helen Marshall, who saluted the E-Space for the work it does. In yeoman?s terms, the E-Space provides an opportunity for upstart businesses, mostly food-related, to rent time in a commercial kitchen to make their products. In order to sell food in New York City, it must be made in a commercial kitchen and that is an expensive undertaking, so the E-Space provides the entrepreneurs the chance to produce their product at a low cost. Count Greenberg and his Mitchmallows company as one of the businesses that depends on the E-Space and its kitchen. The birthday party ended with an over-the-top presentation of a frozen slice of cake from Elizabeth Taylor?s 60th birthday party held at Disneyland in 1992. read more

The Food and Drug Administration secretly monitored the personal e-mail of a group of its own scientists and doctors after they warned Congress that the agency was approving medical devices that posed unacceptable risks to patients, government documents show. FDA computers post a warning, visible when users log on, that they should have “no reasonable expectation of privacy” in any data passing through or stored on the system, and that the government may intercept any such data at any time for any lawful government purpose. But in the suit, the doctors and scientists say the government violated their constitutional privacy rights by gazing into personal e-mail accounts for the purpose of monitoring activity that they say was lawful. But according to FDA internal documents that the scientists and doctors obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, the agency told the Health and Human Services inspector general that they had improperly disclosed confidential business information about the devices. Washingtologists consistently post thought-provoking, timely comments on events, communities, and trends in the Washington area. PARK CITY, Utah — “The buzz means nothing,” said Robert Redford as his Sundance Film Festival opened in this luxury ski town last week. Meanwhile, a movie that caused several buyers to roll their eyes before the festival began — “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” a drama tinged with magical realism, about a 6-year-old named Hushpuppy in bayou country — became an instant must-see after an early audience gave it a standing ovation, and critics drooled. Other movies that entered with little heat ( “Robot and Frank,” with Frank Langella, about a retired jewel thief and his mechanized caretaker) or arrived with negative buzz ( “The Surrogate,” with a very naked Helen Hunt as a sex worker), emerged with rosy futures, or at least distribution deals. Despite the hoopla surrounding Sundance — publicists sent this reporter 419 unsolicited pitches for articles tied to the festival — seasoned buyers practiced what Mr. read more
