Oracle's Ellison: Virtualization, Applications, We Got It All – InformationWeek- About: E-Business

Edwards, Siebel Systems, and PeopleSoft applications, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison said at Oracle OpenWorld on Wednesday. Ellison emphasized at the start of his remarks that Oracle has picked up 1,500 customers with its “Unbreakable Linux” support offering, launched at Oracle OpenWorld a year ago. Brian Stevens, Red Hat CTO, is attending Oracle OpenWorld, and he said Oracle had the chance to submit bug fixes to Red Hat prior to launching Unbreakable Linux as the two cooperated to make Oracle run effectively on Linux. Wim Coekaerts, a Linux kernel developer employed by Oracle, said in an interview several weeks before Oracle OpenWorld that Red Hat Enterprise Linux is extensively tested before changes are accepted, which slows the bug fixing process. Red Hat spokesman have said that customers taking an Oracle bug fix, untested by Red Hat, were voiding the certifications and guarantees supplied by Red Hat on its enterprise system. read more

This is the seventh year that e-business seniors have acted as consultants and created Web sites for area nonprofits, and in December the latest teams will have the Web sites completed and turned over to the organizations. Mackay, director of the school’s e-business program and an associate professor, said the class was not about just the nuts and bolts of building a functioning Web site. Jake Mattison, an e-business and entrepreneurial management major, said part of the reason he picked the e-business major was the opportunity to take Mackay’s class and tackle a real-world project. Mackay said that the students have to communicate within their teams as well as with their clients and there is a lot of documentation that must take place to chart progress and to give the organization a background of information for when they take over Web site operations. read more
